Kiambu, Kenya5 years building Green Valley Organics

I'm Wanjiru. I farm two acres in Kiambu with eight women from my village. I'm looking for one partner who cares about how food is grown, not only what it returns.

Build Kenya never processes payments. One founder, one partner — agreements are signed directly between the two of you.

Why I started this business

My mother farmed this land with chemicals she couldn't read the labels of, and her hands paid for it. When the land came to me I decided we would do it differently, even if it was slower. Eight of us now grow certified organic vegetables here and each of us takes home an income of our own. What breaks my heart is watching good produce spoil in a matatu on the way to Nairobi. My dream is that no crate we harvest is ever wasted.
