How we build trust between founders and investors — and why Build Kenya never touches anyone's money.

Back to Learn

This page is maintained by Build Kenya to answer common questions about how our platform works. It describes our current, in-app practices — not a third-party certification.

Verification

Every founder on Build Kenya is verified before their profile is discoverable. Verification includes government ID, phone, email, business registration, and a human manual review.

A verified badge appears only when all steps are complete. If any step is pending, that is disclosed on the profile.

Due diligence

Verification is not the same as due diligence. Verification confirms who a founder is; due diligence is your own review of the business itself.

We provide the tools — profile, story, photos, video, timeline, AI executive and business summaries, strengths, honest challenges, and suggested questions — so you can make an informed decision.

For deeper reviews, our directory lists verified accounting, legal, and valuation partners you can engage independently.

Safe supporting

Take your time. There is no urgency built into Build Kenya, no auction clocks, no fear-of-missing-out messaging.

Start with an amount you would be comfortable never seeing again — this is early-stage support, and outcomes vary.

A written legal agreement is required before any funds move. A legal partner from our directory can prepare and review it for both sides.

Meeting process

Meetings begin as a request through the founder's profile. The founder confirms date and format — usually a call or an in-person visit.

A meeting is a conversation, not a commitment. Use it to listen, ask the suggested questions, and get a feel for the founder.

You are never expected to make a decision inside the meeting. Take days — or weeks — before responding.

Risk awareness

Early-stage businesses can fail. Even strong founders face bad seasons, price shocks, health emergencies, and market changes outside their control.

Only ever commit funds you can afford to lose entirely, and only into businesses you have taken the time to understand.

Build Kenya's verification and tools reduce risk — they do not eliminate it. The final judgement is yours.

Important

Build Kenya is a trust platform — never a bank.

  • Build Kenya never acts as a bank.
  • Build Kenya never receives customer money.
  • Money moves directly between entrepreneur and investor after a written legal agreement — ideally reviewed by a legal partner from our directory.
